A look back into history

70 years of the Quelle Hotel… an eventful history.

Originally a small guesthouse consisting of seven rooms and a cosy pub, the Quelle Hotel (the German word ‘Quelle’ means ‘source’) has since become an unrivalled five-star spa resort. 2020 we will celebrate!
About 70 years ago, Benedikt Steinmair and Elisabeth Felderer opened the Quelle Inn, which was expanded in 1970 so it could accommodate 40 guests.

Ten years later, the establishment was extended further and renovated. 58 beds, a new huge kitchen, the Zirbelstube (pine lounge) and the Jägerstube (hunters’ lounge), a restaurant and dining hall, the indoor swimming pool, a gym and two small saunas were added, which meant our hotel could be awarded three stars. Since Mr. Steinmair’s death in the 1980s, the establishment has been run by his son, Erich, and daughter-in-law Margit.

In the years that followed, even more improvements were added… the beauty and spa area, along with new rooms, was added in 1994. Our underground parking garage, as well as new indoor and outdoor swimming pools came in 2002 and, in 2004 the original building was redeveloped.

Autumn 2007 saw the beginning of our biggest project to date – the new wing containing 17 Alpine suites, the new garden restaurant, a kitchen expansion, the attractive underground parking garage and the new Quelle Spa were built.

In spring 2012, the rooms in the original building were renovated, becoming the romantic suites we dubbed “melodia d’amore” – Italian for “melody of love”. In addition to that, the existing 2,000m² spa area was expanded again – this time, a freshwater bathing pool, a mill wheel sauna plus water wheel and a panoramic outdoor Jacuzzi actually inside the freshwater bathing pool were added.

The latest renovations took place in early 2016. The spa area already contains 48 attractions and, with the new highlights – such as the Infinity Outdoor Sports Pool and our first ever snow sauna – our establishment now counts as one of the most extensive spa resorts in the Alps. Further new additions, like the hotel cinema, the Players Lounge or the Apero Lounge, round the concept off nicely… our stunning spa resort nestled in the pristine South Tyrolean countryside just cannot me missed!

Family Steinmair was busy again in spring 2017 and worked with professional architects and companies on a very successful restyling of the restaurant area, the hotel lobby and the underground car park.
Starting from summer 2017 the hotel presents the 5th hotel star and Manuel Steinmair took over the management of the hotel with the subject to surprise every day with new highlights, to offer a high quality, an unforgettable holiday and the special Quelle feeling.

In spring 2018, we create a new show kitchen, a new restaurant with "winter garden" and the Sonnensuiten and suites Blumenschlössl will be modernized. In 2019 we create also a new kitchen with lift.

In the meantime, even more Steinmairs, namely Sarah and Julia, have entered the hospitality industry and joined our team, supporting us with enthusiasm and joy. Sarah Steinmair opens the new Chalet Salena in June 2018 - 7 luxurious apartments, each with private pool and sauna in St. Magdalena.

In 2019 we have built the new hotel kitchen. In 2020 and 2021 we celebrate our 70th hotel anniversary and open a new sister establishment in summer 2021. Let us surprise you!

Wonderfully beautiful, elegant, chic, furnished in just the way you’d expect an Alpine establishment to look and with the best staff – this is what our guests encounter when they visit the Quelle Hotel Nature Spa Resort. A great amount of mutual trust and respect, as well as a reliable team, has allowed us to follow our highly promising vision. We have gone from strength to strength, and are delighted to be able to fulfil our life-long dream on a daily basis.
